About this quilt

This quilt was made with the Hoffman of California 2016 Challenge Fabric and entered into the Challenge. It was selected to be in the traveling show and will travel around the country to various venues until September 2017.

Artist’s Statement:  The moment I saw the colorful medallions of this year’s challenge fabric, I was taken back to earlier times when I would go to our county fair. After dark the atmosphere was electric with carnival lights that twinkled in a star-shaped patterns, reflecting the glitz from the carney booths around them. I can almost smell the caramel corn and powdered-sugared waffles. I couldn’t resist using the geometric Hoffman Challenge fabric for the backing. It too, reminded me of the electric carnival atmosphere of the state fair. It was a happy, exciting time!

Materials and Techniques:  All of the foreground images are composed and pieced using the Hoffman Challenge fabric with geometric quilting. The background is a black fabric with gold dots and colorful, playful free motion quilting. Small Swarovski crystals are scattered about, and unique buttons adorn the center of the images. The quilting was done be me on my home sewing machine.
