Deep in my Ohio woods, spring once again returns. The sun begins to burn off the morning’s mist to reveal the subtle splendors and colors of the woodlands, and invites me to take a walk.
About this quilt
Using fabric dye, I hand-painted background fabric to serve as the base for the landscape. Every piece of fabric was individually cut and then raw-edge appliquéd.
Background trees were drawn with thin permanent markers, or stitched with invisible thread. I used oil pastels on the trees, rocks, stream, and greenery to create dimension and depth. For the tree leaves, I cut very tiny pieces of my hand-dyed fabric and sprinkled them in the background. For the misty look, and to preserve the scattered leaves, the upper half of the quilt was covered with white tulle and free-motioned quilted with invisible thread, after which I cut away the tulle from foreground images
