About this quilt
This quilt was my art therapy during a difficult time. As I added each strip, I was uplifted and the joyfulness of are and of life began to return, and I eventually became “uplifted and free.” I wrote a poem about my experience with the process of creating the quilt - see below.
This is a very textural quilt with semi-precious beads and stones. The murky water strip at the bottom is my hand-painted fabric. The finished quilt is mounted on a fabric that is stretched over a canvas stretcher. It was professionally framed in a shadow box frame.

At that moment in time . . .
Circumstances murky and brown, void of feeling
Like buried precious stones, my soul is desperately seeking to see the light
Layer by layer, slowly emerging from the despair of the circumstances
My soul is steadily being lifted to the light, navigating through the obstacles
Breaking though, seeing the light, lifting higher
Colors are again rich and vibrant
Textures become tactile once more
My soul is finally free and joyful
It now glitters like gold in the light
I am uplifted and free!
